Does Broadband Access Impact Migration in America? Examining Differences between Rural and Urban Areas

Summary. Using U.S. county-level data from 2000 to 2006, this study examines whether broadband access affects migration patterns. Broadband had mild effects on migration in urban areas. In rural areas, counties with only one broadband type saw no significant in-migration, but rural counties with both Cable and DSL access experienced significant in-migration compared to counties without broadband.
