The Case for the Development of Public Transit in an Urban Boundary Rural Area

Summary. A survey of commuters in a rural area bordering a metropolitan region reveals that people would use public transit if available, driven by concerns about fuel costs and pollution. Educated and younger residents show the strongest preference for transit, challenging assumptions that rural populations inherently prefer automobiles.
