DISTRIBUTED RENEWABLE ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES AND RURAL ELECTRIFICATION ACCESS IN SOUTH-SOUTH NIGERIA: EVIDENCE FROM A BINARY LOGISTIC REGRESSION MODEL
Summary. Distributed renewable energy technologies significantly improve electricity access in rural South-South Nigeria. The study analyzed 290 rural areas using logistic regression, finding that solar mini-grids, solar home systems, renewable energy investment, and supportive policies all increase the likelihood of household electricity access. Geographic remoteness normally reduces access, but distributed technologies substantially overcome this disadvantage. The model achieved 82.4% accuracy, confirming that prioritizing distributed renewables and strengthening rural electrification funding can accelerate universal electricity access in off-grid communities.
