Strengthening Rural Mental Health Crisis Response: Integrating Broadband Telehealth Care Across Counties Served by Kentucky River District Health Department
Summary. Rural Eastern Kentucky counties face severe mental health crises due to provider shortages, transportation barriers, and limited broadband. The Broadband-Enabled Rural Crisis Stabilization Initiative (BERCSI) proposes integrating telehealth technology with crisis stabilization services across seven counties. The program combines rapid telehealth assessments, care coordination, community outreach, and workforce training, supported by federal funding and partnerships with state health departments and universities. Evaluation will measure improvements in care access, service utilization, and emergency department use.
