The Social Justice Framework in the Information Technology Rural Librarian Master’s Scholarship Program: Bridging the Rural Digital Divides

Summary. A scholarship program trained sixteen rural librarians in Appalachia to earn master's degrees through distance education, using a social justice framework. The program recruited paraprofessionals from Southern and Central Appalachian libraries and delivered part-time coursework synchronously online from 2010 to 2012. The initiative addressed digital divides by building local information technology capacity in underserved rural communities.
