Convergence of Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Sustainable Agriculture: Socioeconomic, Policy, and Agribusiness Perspectives
Summary. Indigenous knowledge systems and scientific agriculture both contribute distinct strengths to sustainable farming. Indigenous approaches excel at climate adaptation and biodiversity conservation, while scientific methods optimize yields and enable scaling. Hybrid systems combining both approaches outperform either alone, delivering higher productivity, resilience, and efficiency with fewer external inputs. However, policy and institutions marginalize indigenous knowledge. The study argues that participatory knowledge co-production and decision-support tools can integrate these systems to achieve sustainable intensification and rural economic empowerment.
