The participatory market chain approach: Stimulating innovations along the indigenous African leafy vegetables market chain
Summary. The Participatory Market Chain Approach improved African leafy vegetable markets in central Uganda by bringing together 70–121 chain actors across three phases. Collaborative engagement generated commercial, technical, and institutional innovations including new products like nutritional powder and enriched peanut butter. A platform of 54 actors formed to address future challenges. The process strengthened trust, built linkages among farmers and traders, increased incomes, and improved capacity for innovation among smallholder farmers and women.
