Performance Evaluation of a Micro-Inverter System using Localized Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) Control for Rural Off-Grid Application

Summary. Researchers in Nigeria designed and tested a 300-watt micro-inverter using adaptive pulse-width modulation control, built from locally available components. The prototype achieved 87.5–93.2% efficiency and maintained stable performance in tropical heat (35–40°C), outperforming imported inverters on harmonic quality and reliability. This locally-built approach offers a cost-effective solution for rural off-grid electrification in Sub-Saharan Africa.
