Developing a functional framework for the rural technological innovation system; Emphasizing the irrigation systems in a rural community of central Iran

Summary. This study identifies 12 functions that rural technological innovation systems should perform, based on research into irrigation systems in central Iran. Seven functions overlap with urban innovation systems, while five are distinct to rural contexts: ensuring spatial-social justice, monitoring and selecting appropriate technology, accountability, building community hope, and sustainability. The findings reveal gaps in how villages currently develop and adopt technology.
