A decentralized, renewable-energy-powered business hub for rural areas: A case study of Ilakan community, Nigeria

Chimaobi Daniel Nna, Azizat Olusola Gbadegesin, Kamilu O. Lawal · 2016

Summary. This paper designs a decentralized, solar-powered business hub for Ilakan community in Nigeria, which lacks electricity access despite active agricultural production. The hub uses local solar radiation data to provide affordable, clean off-grid power for community members regardless of their occupation. The authors argue that successful mini-grids require careful analysis of local economic, social, and environmental conditions, plus detailed energy audits to select appropriate technology and estimate output.
