The Role and Sustainability of Microfinance Banks in Reducing Poverty and Development of Entrepreneurship in Urban and Rural Areas in Nigeria
Summary. Microfinance banks in Nigeria's Lagos State struggle to reduce poverty and support entrepreneurship due to significant operational challenges. The study found high loan default rates among small enterprises and identified major obstacles including poor credit documentation, applicant identity verification issues, and economic instability. These problems undermine the sustainability of microfinance institutions attempting to empower rural and urban entrepreneurs through credit access.
