From Rural to Microfinance Banking: Contributions of Micro Credits to Nigeria’s Economic Growth – An ARDL Approach

Summary. This study examines how microfinance credit affects Nigeria's economic growth from 1982 to 2011. Using econometric analysis, the researchers find a significant long-term relationship between microfinance disbursements and economic growth, with causality flowing from growth to credit rather than the reverse. The study recommends expanding microfinance volume and developing longer-term credit products to strengthen microfinance's contribution to Nigeria's economy.
