Communication channels, innovation tasks and NPD project outcomes in innovation‐driven horizontal networks

Adegoke Oke, Moronke Idiagbon‐Oke · 2010 · Journal of Operations Management

Summary. This study examines how communication channels affect new product development in inter-organizational networks. Analyzing 93 innovation-driven horizontal networks with 372 respondents, the researchers found that tasks requiring less analysis use richer communication channels, which in turn strengthen network ties and reduce development time. Communication channel richness partially mediates the relationship between task complexity and project outcomes.
