Evaluating renewable energy choices among rural communities in Nigeria. An insight for energy policy

Summary. Rural communities in North-Central Nigeria show strong demand for renewable energy, particularly solar photovoltaic systems. Awareness, income, and availability significantly influence adoption rates. High installation and maintenance costs, combined with reliability concerns and weak policy incentives, remain major barriers. The study recommends government funding partnerships and subsidies to reduce costs, increase awareness, and enable private firms to supply affordable renewable energy to rural households currently dependent on firewood.
