Optimizing hybrid renewable energy systems for rural electrification: a case study of selected villages in Kwara State, Nigeria

Summary. Researchers designed an optimal hybrid renewable energy system combining small hydropower, solar panels, and flywheel energy storage to electrify three off-grid villages in Nigeria's Kwara State. Using HOMER optimization software, they determined that a 273 kW solar-hydropower-flywheel system minimizes energy costs at $0.23 per kilowatt-hour, reducing surplus energy waste and lowering overall electrification expenses for rural communities.
