Hybrid power system options for off-grid rural electrification in northwestern region of Nigeria

Boluwaji Moses Olomiyesan, O.D. Oyedum · 2024 · Academia green energy.

Summary. This study evaluates off-grid hybrid power systems for rural electrification in northwestern Nigeria. Researchers modeled and compared solar-wind-diesel hybrid systems and standalone diesel generators for two locations using optimization software. Results show that a PV-wind-diesel hybrid system meets electricity demand most cost-effectively, with lower energy costs than Nigeria's grid tariff. The authors recommend adopting this hybrid approach to support rural education, healthcare, and economic development.
