Summary. Early mentorship and clinical exposure significantly shape medical students' interest in neurosurgery and counter negative stereotypes. Female students face particular barriers related to family planning concerns and underrepresentation. Curricular gaps limit early exploration of the field. The study recommends preclerkship electives, expanded clerkship access, simulation training, conference funding, and structured mentorship with diverse role models to increase interest and diversity in neurosurgery.
