Exploring the Socio-Cultural Barriers that Hinder Female's Access to Higher Education in Rural Areas of Quetta and Examining Female Perspectives on the Effectiveness of These Barriers

Iqra Panezai, Athar Azeem, Shamaila Athar · 2024 · Global Social Sciences Review

Summary. This study identifies socio-cultural barriers preventing women from pursuing higher education in rural Quetta, including patriarchal culture, early marriage, preference for sons' education, and social bias. Through interviews with ten young women, researchers found that while these obstacles exist, many women do not view them as effective deterrents. The findings reveal women's difficult circumstances in rural Quetta and call for stronger strategies to encourage female higher education participation.
