Rural Microfinance Service Delivery: Gaps, Inefficiencies and Emerging Solutions
Summary. Rural microfinance institutions face three critical operational challenges: communicating with remote clients, managing institutional data, and delivering money to distant areas. This paper identifies technology gaps in these areas based on field research across Latin America and Asia. It examines current solutions including handheld devices for data collection, management information systems, and electronic banking strategies, assessing their effectiveness and potential to help microfinance providers achieve sustainable growth and scale.
