Broadband wireless technology for rural India

Summary. Wireless broadband technology can effectively serve rural India through kiosk-based internet delivery models. The paper argues that affordable broadband requires wireless systems delivering at least 256 kbps to 200 villages within 20 km radius at under $250 per connection. While emerging WiMAX standards show promise, adapted technologies like corDECT and WiFiRe offer immediate solutions. The corDECT system has demonstrated viability in rural deployments.
