Sustainable agricultural waste management in India: Innovations, challenges, and future perspectives
Summary. India generates 500 million tons of agricultural waste annually, contributing 13.72% of the country's greenhouse gas emissions. This paper reviews sustainable waste management practices and valorization techniques that convert agricultural residues into energy, building materials, and biofuels. The authors identify techno-economic, social, institutional, and governance barriers to scaling these solutions and recommend policy interventions and circular economy integration to address surplus residue management.
