Chile as a key enabler country for global plant breeding, agricultural innovation, and biotechnology
Summary. Chile has become a global leader in seed production, particularly for counter-season markets and research. Between 2009 and 2018, Chile conducted over 1,000 seed-planting events for crop development and multiplication, including genetically modified seeds. Every major commodity crop with global cultivation status has undergone field testing in Chile. The country's new regulatory framework for plant breeding techniques positions it to maintain its role as a hub for agricultural biotechnology innovation.
