Universities and innovation strategies in rural regions: The case of the Greater Lincolnshire Innovation Programme (UK)

Summary. Universities in rural regions face unique challenges supporting local innovation. This study examines how a UK university used European Regional Development Fund resources to help rural businesses innovate. Rural firms have diverse needs that don't fit standard smart specialisation approaches. The university adopted one-to-one support rather than collective strategies, balancing firm needs with its own smaller capacity and specialised focus.
