Place-Based Rural Development and Resilience: A Lesson from a Small Community
Summary. Community resilience drives rural development. This case study of a small economically disadvantaged community identifies three key factors for building resilience: rebuilding social ties and trust within the community, creating a cascade effect where initial projects spark additional initiatives, and adopting systemic approaches that connect previously disconnected sectors and areas. Place-based policies succeed when they rely on resilient actors and communities.
