Renewable Energy For Rural Development : The

Summary. Renewable energy technologies offer viable alternatives to expensive grid extensions in rural Nigeria. The paper argues that solar, hydropower, wind, and biomass resources can deliver essential energy services—lighting, refrigeration, cooking, transportation—to remote areas where conventional power infrastructure costs prohibit deployment. Policy measures promoting renewable energy adoption are necessary to enable rural development in Nigeria and other developing nations facing energy access challenges.
