Access under Constraint: Barriers Shaping Female Participation in Higher Education in Rural Balochistan

Shahzadi Sattar, Nazia Mushtaq, Amna Mushtaq, Ayesha Sajid Taga · 2025 · Review of Applied Management and Social Sciences

Summary. This study identifies major barriers preventing rural female students in Balochistan, Pakistan from accessing higher education. Economic constraints, lack of institutional support, socio-cultural barriers, early marriage, and harassment significantly discourage enrollment and continuation. The research surveyed 239 female students across rural colleges and universities, finding that targeted policies addressing financial assistance, institutional support, cultural awareness, transportation, and anti-harassment measures are essential to improve educational access and gender equality.
