Improving schooling outcomes for Latinos in rural California: A critical place-based approach to farmworkers history

Summary. A place-based education project in California's Central Valley engaged Latino and Filipino community college students in learning about the Farmworkers Movement through oral history. Students significantly improved their historical thinking skills, biliteracy abilities, and bicultural identity. The approach shows promise for improving Latino schooling outcomes at both junior college and K–12 levels in rural agricultural regions.
