Storying the FEW Nexus: A Framework for Cultivating Place-Based Integrated STEM Education in Rural Schools
Summary. Rural schools often teach STEM disconnected from students' lives and communities. This paper presents Storying the FEW Nexus, a framework combining food, energy, and water resource education with place-based learning for K-12 rural students. The approach integrates STEM with local narratives and social sciences to help students develop sustainable solutions to environmental challenges specific to their communities, grounding abstract knowledge in authentic rural contexts.
