Participatory video documentation of indigenous agricultural knowledge for extension system integration in South Korea

Summary. South Korea's indigenous agricultural knowledge is disappearing as experienced farmers age without passing expertise to younger generations. This study tested participatory video as a documentation method against photo-text, audio, and text manuals across 178 farming households. Participatory video significantly outperformed all alternatives in transferring technical knowledge, procedural skills, and peer learning, while generating 3.4 times higher farmer engagement. The research demonstrates participatory video effectively captures tacit knowledge and integrates indigenous practices into formal extension systems.
