Examining gender and urban-rural divide in digital competence among university students

Summary. This study surveyed 241 university students in Pakistan to measure digital competence across gender and urban-rural divides. Gender showed no significant differences in digital competence. However, students at rural-located universities demonstrated significantly lower digital competence than those at urban universities. Digital skill levels—operational, informational, and strategic—did not differ significantly among participants. The findings highlight a rural disadvantage in digital preparedness among university students.
