Rural Community Participation, Social Networks, and Broadband Use: Examples from Localized and National Survey Data

Summary. Broadband access independently increases volunteering in rural communities, separate from the effects of social network size. The study analyzed three datasets to examine how internet connectivity influences community participation, which is particularly vital in rural areas. Results show broadband and social networks operate as distinct factors driving rural civic engagement.
