Tradition as innovation: Dialect revalorization and maximal orthographic distinction in rural Norwegian writing

Rural Norwegian communities have revitalized their traditional dialect, Valdresmål, transforming it from a stigmatized marker of backwardness into a valued resource for local identity and economic development. Young people and businesses now use the dialect prominently on social media and in marketing, creating new written forms with distinctive orthography. This revalorization fundamentally changes the dialect's social meaning and function as it enters modern digital and commercial spaces.
