Indigenous agricultural communication systems as pathways for knowledge transfer and adoption of sustainable farming practices in rural Ghana
Summary. Indigenous agricultural communication systems in rural Ghana effectively disseminate farming knowledge through trusted community leaders like chiefs and elders, covering planting seasons, soil management, and climate-sensitive practices. These systems outperform formal extension services for smallholder farmers with limited digital access. However, they face challenges from generational disengagement and climate impacts. Policymakers should integrate these systems with formal extension to strengthen sustainable agriculture.
