A novel clinical innovation: Bilateral modified indigenous nasal elevator with calibrated force for alar dome correction in bilateral cleft lip and palate patients

Summary. Researchers developed a novel bilateral modified indigenous nasal elevator (BMINE) appliance for presurgical nasal molding in cleft lip and palate patients. The device uses stainless steel wire and acrylic to apply calibrated traction to nasal structures without interfering with feeding. In a case study, the appliance successfully reduced the intersegmental gap from 11mm to 2.5mm and improved columellar angle and nasal symmetry. The low-cost, customizable device offers an effective alternative to conventional techniques in resource-limited settings.
