Governance and Finance: Availability of Community and Social Development Infrastructures in Rural China

Summary. This study examines why rural Chinese communities have unequal access to infrastructure. Using data from 307 villages, the researchers found that funding sources and village governance structures significantly affect availability of public transportation, sanitation, healthcare, and aged care services. The impact of these factors varies by infrastructure type. The findings highlight how finance and governance decisions shape rural development outcomes.
