Techno-economic analysis of sustainable rural electrification through hybrid renewable energy microgrids
Summary. This paper analyzes hybrid renewable energy microgrids for electrifying remote rural areas in Pakistan's KPK and Sindh provinces. The researchers compared different system configurations—including PV-hydro-battery and PV-battery options—using techno-economic analysis. A PV-hydro-battery system in Ayun Chitral achieved the lowest costs, while renewable microgrids could reduce emissions by up to 95%. The study provides practical guidance for Pakistan to expand renewable energy access in unelectrified locations.
