Rural Finance, Development and Livelihoods in China
Summary. This paper examines how rural financial services in China have evolved since 1949 and shaped local livelihoods. The authors trace the expansion and diversification of financial services, particularly the growth of microfinance in rural areas since the mid-2000s. They analyze key actors and dynamics, identify gaps in existing scholarship, and propose directions for better understanding how rural finance affects development and community wellbeing in China and globally.
