The digital divide in rural South Asia: Survey evidence from Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka

Summary. This paper examines how organizational innovations can bridge the digital divide in South Asia by providing affordable internet access. Using survey data from Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, the authors find that education is the primary driver of computer and internet adoption, both as a motivation for use and as an enabling factor—particularly English language proficiency.
